I’ve been looking for some motivation and inspiration to start writing. The almighty Google brought me to writing.com! I just registered last night and right away wrote a poem for a contest. LOL. You can find my portfolio by clicking the banner on the right. I’ve gotten some positive reviews on the poem so I’m excited!
The site contains a lot of info and activities and I’m wandering aimlessly trying to find my way around. Come check it out whether you’re a writer, reader or wannabe! The basic account is free. Contests require a paid account but you can still read and see how the site works.
If you like stories about vampires, shape shifters, and other supernatural beings, this series may be for you. The books are pretty light reads but keep your attention. Charlaine Harris does an excellent job with the characters and the story lines. Sookie Stackhouse is the main character. She’s a telepath which makes it difficult for her to interact with humans. She knows everyone’s intimate thoughts, whether she wants to or not, and everyone in town thinks she’s odd. Though she enjoys the “silence” of vampire brains, she didn’t bargain for all the drama they’d bring to her.
I have a handy dandy link to the first book in the series on Amazon in the sidebar. So click and give it a try! And you have or get a Kindle you can download a sample of the book to see if it’s for you!
I am a coffee snob as well as a tea snob. I won’t give up either Adagio Tea or Green Mountain Coffee. I may not eat but I will have tea and coffee!
I found Green Mountain Coffee a few years ago. I can’t remember how, but I’m glad I did. The coffee and customer service is excellent. Of course, excellence leads to spending more money. LOL! I ended up buying a Keurig Coffee Maker that was on their site. I actually bought it from Amazon.com, but I buy my K-cups from Green Mountain. It is more expensive then buying the drip ground coffee but so worth it! I usually drink a cup or two of coffee at a time so I don’t need to make an entire pot. Plus, I can have Kona Blend for one cup then Sumutra for the next. The coffee maker and coffee is more expensive but so worth it to me.
I believe I mentioned that Green Mountain’s customer service was also excellent. I once ordered two bags of drip coffee by mistake. I emailed customer service but I figured the order had already shipped so was resign for paying for it and would have to re-order my k-cups. Was I surprised! I received a reply back to my email that the order had shipped, but to keep for myself or to give to someone else at no charge! They then promptly shipped the order I meant to place. That guarantees that Green Mountain will continue receiving my business, even though I can find k-kups a little cheaper elsewhere.
If you hate the high costs of audiobooks, but like listening to stories while working, driving, etc., then give Podiobooks.com a try! You can search and download books from the website or through iTunes. The files are in mp3 format so any computer or mp3 player will play the podiobooks. Here are some of my favorite titles so far:
Did I forget to tell you that the podiobooks are free? You can’t beat great entertainment for that price. Once I found Podiobooks.com I became addicted immediately.
I heard about e-readers a few years ago. I never investigated them seriously since I didn’t want to read books on a computer screen. When the Kindle first came out I thought, “Oh, another e-reader,” then ignored it. I couldn’t ignore it for very long though. It was in my face every time I went to amazon.com. So I finally gave in and read the info and reviews on Amazon. That’s when I knew I wanted one. I also Googled to make sure I had non-Amazon info and opinions on it. Logically I knew I didn’t “need” it. But that just made the want more powerful.
My friends know I’ve been wanting one so they weren’t surprised when I told them I’d finally ordered my Kindle. It was easy for me to justify. I live in a one bedroom apartment so I have no space to store books. I don’t live near a library, so that’s not an option for me. I was using an excellent service called BooksFree, which works like Netflix for books, but I wasn’t happy with paying a monthly subscription fee. I also told myself that I’d read more since the Kindle easily fits into my purse. To me these were perfectly logical reasons to buy a Kindle.
No regrets so far! I haven’t had it a week yet and I cannot part with it. I won’t repeat all the features and services the Kindle includes. You can read about them on the Amazon Kindle Page, as well as Googling the Kindle. There are a few “issues” some people mentioned in the reviews I read—non of which kept me away—that I will address here.
It’s true that the “next page” bar is easy to accidentally click. However, I have found that by holding the Kindle with the cover folded back while reading, this annoyance doesn’t occur as often. I rest my thumb on the edge of the cover which seems to do the trick for me. Sure, I still hit it sometimes but I’m not having the problem some readers claim they have.
Some people like to share books with friends. This isn’t possible with the Kindle. I’ve never been big into sharing or trading books so this doesn’t bother me at all. If you are a book sharer, the Kindle may not be for you.
Although Amazon offers over 100,000 books in Kindle format, that still leaves quite a few that aren’t available for the Kindle. So far I’m finding most of the books I want for my Kindle. Notice I said “most.” Of course Amazon doesn’t want Kindle customers going elsewhere so they’ve made it as easy as possible to buy and deliver books with one click. But if you look around you can find books in unprotected Mobi format that the Kindle can read. You can find free public domain e-books as well as new ones that require payment. Fictionwise.com is one site I really like. So far I’ve only bought one book there that I couldn’t find on Amazon. I’ll talk more about Fictionwise in a future post.
I am really happy I talked myself into getting a Kindle! It goes everywhere with me. I am reading more too. Partly because it’s new but partly because it’s easier to read more. I highly recommend the Kindle to anyone that reads.
For some students, learning has earned the stereotype of being boring. Listening to lectures or watching video tutorials can be the perfect segue to a nap. But it doesn’t have to be this way. LVS breaks out of this stereotype by replacing the boring with fun! You won’t find boring lectures here. What you will find is fun experienced instructors who help you learn at your own pace.
In fact, this blog was created for a class I’m currently taking called Blogging for Fun, Fame, and Fortune. Bean, our instructor is amazing with the sharing of her knowledge to her students. My classmates have been very creative with their blogs. I’m listing a few of them so you can go see for yourself:
I can no longer drink that Lipton “tea” stuff from the grocery store. Yes I am somewhat of a tea snob. A few years ago, I discovered Adagio Teas and I haven’t looked back. Their tea is divine! Loose leaf tea has so much more flavor than the tea dust found in commercial tea bags. They even let you create your own blend! Mine is called Morning Wakeup and is a blend of Assam, Mambo and Ceylon teas.
Another great feature of Adagio is their points program where you can earn gift certificates toward tea purchases. Every dollar you spend earns a point, when someone purchases a blend you created you earn 10 points, and you get 10 points for each friend that you refer that makes a purchase.
If you’re not sure if this awesome tea is for you, you can can purchase a sample for $2-$3. Plus a current customer can send you a complimentary $5 gift certificate. This all means that you have nothing to lose by giving Adagio a try.
If you’d like a $5 gift certificate to try Adagio Teas, just leave a comment with a real email address in the email field. I’m the only one that will see the email address.
I ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut online today. When I ordered they had to be promoting a new dessert called Hershey’s Chocolate Dunkers. How could I resist anything chocolate with chocolate dip? O M G! They are incredible. I’ve eaten half of the order without the chocolate dip and can’t see how the dip can make them any better. I’m saving the other half for later–at least I’m trying to. If you need dessert or just a chocolate fix, I strongly suggest trying these. I may not be able to order pizza anywhere else ever again.
